Whether for practical or aesthetic reasons, it is sometimes difficult to install an extractor hood in your kitchen. The best solution is often to camouflage it or reduce its size, and this is precisely what the Italian specialist Falmec offers with the Shelf model, or shelf in the language of Molière. The idea is to place all the elements of an extractor hood in a piece of furniture whose height does not exceed 10 cm to gain discretion, without cluttering the interior and the underside of high furniture, as is the case. with certain models of hoods. It should be noted that the Shelf can accommodate a few modules designed for it by Falmec, such as a support for a tablet or trays for aromatic plants and that it is quite possible to put knick-knacks on it; however, the weight should not exceed 5 kg, which is still quite low. We will therefore be careful not to store too many cookbooks there, for example.

In order to save space, the trick is to use four small motors instead of one bulky one. According to the manufacturer, these four units would develop enough power to reach a maximum flow rate of 500 m³/h (4 speeds available). In fact, this should be enough for a 20 m² kitchen. This design has another advantage: modularity. The four motors can be ideally placed to cover a large area and provide even suction over cooking surfaces.

Of course, this discretion has no impact on the quality of air filtration. Falmec indicates that the filters used retain odors and humidity thanks to the properties of carbon and zeolite. Often used in dishwashers, this volcanic rock releases heat when it absorbs moisture. Thus, the Shelf extractor hood can be used serenely in recycling mode. Like the vast majority of extractor hoods, it is also possible to install it in evacuation mode, but the elements necessary for the suction of air will be installed in a counter-partition. In this configuration, technopolymer filters are responsible for capturing the water vapour.

Apart from the suction system, the Shelf is also equipped with a lighting system consisting of a strip of LEDs. The user can also modify the temperature as he wishes, from 2700 K to 5600 K.

Be careful, Falmec hoods are often expensive and the Shelf is no exception to the rule. Depending on the version, prices range from 2399 to 2999 €.
