Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger finally estimates that the semiconductor crisis will last until 2024.
The shortage of components inherent to Covid-19 and the play of supply and demand has been a major subject for two years now. All sectors have been more or less affected. And some bosses’ predictions haven’t been very good for quite some time now. 2022 would not be spared, just like the year 2023.
Pat Gelsinger, the CEO of Intel, had also exposed this vision of things in October 2021. “ We are at the worst moment; each quarter of next year we will gradually improve, but the balance between supply and demand will not be reached before 2023“, he had declared.
Revised estimates
Seven months later, however, the story is no longer the same. The person concerned is indeed reviewing his estimates and estimates that this shortage could in fact last until 2024, according to his statements in the columns ofCNBC.
We believe that the global semiconductor shortage will last until 2024, whereas we had estimated it at 2023, simply because the shortage has now affected equipment and the commissioning of certain factories will be more complicated.
Intel would be fine
However, Pat Gelsinger says Intel and its factories are about to meet demand. It hadn’t happened for years, he said. Regarding the shortage, he adds that the issues are at the level of new products built on new production lines, and not on existing ones.
What is certain is that this industrial crisis should still be talked about for a little while.
The Taiwanese Foxconn, subcontractor of Apple for the assembly of the iPhone, among others, believes that the problems of supply of components are beginning to be resolved. The firm is however one of the few to be optimistic.
