The Simpsons: Only Homer refuses the Corona mask in the Halloween edition

Did "The Simpsons" foresee the mask deniers? Or why is Homer the only one who doesn't wear mouth and nose protection in the new Halloween episode?

As is well known, the makers of the cartoon sitcom "The Simpsons" foresaw some incredible things – for example the election of Donald Trump (74) as US President. But not even they could have guessed that 2020 would be hit by a pandemic. And yet the residents of the fictional US city of Springfield all wear protective masks against Corona in the latest Halloween episode called "Treehouse of Horror XXXI", which according to showrunner Al Jean was already written last year. How is that possible?

First of all: there is an exception with the yellow cult figures. As a result, Homer, of all people, is the only one who does not wear a mouth and nose protection and thus lives up to his reputation as an idiot of the service. The creators use this trick to give their episode a ghostly topicality once again and to address the topic of mask refusers. To do this, however, they had to go back to work afterwards, as Jean has revealed according to "Yahoo Entertainment".

Thanks to the long production lead time, all other characters could still be drawn masks over their mouths before the 31st edition of the Halloween special premiered on October 18 on US broadcaster Fox. So in this case it had nothing to do with clairvoyance, just a lot of diligence in drawing at the very last second.

Not another four years of Trump

The election of the upcoming US president was also discussed in the Halloween episode. The animated series, known for its political statements, provided 50 arguments, some serious, some funny, why Donald Trump (74) must not be re-elected under any circumstances. For example: "Call Mexicans rapists", "Impersonate reporters with disabilities", "Call third world countries' assholes'", "Refuse to file tax returns", "Advised people to swallow bleach", "Called Tim Cook 'Tim Apple '"," Can't get his wife to hold hands "or" Described Meryl Streep as overrated ".
