The Sims 4: The Wedding Pack will not be released in Russia because of a gay couple in the game

This week, EA Games and Maxis unveiled the pack Weddingsan extension for The Sims 4 which will add a new game area where it will be possible to organize weddings with a whole bunch of new mechanics. The developers highlighted the union of Dom and Cameraand it is precisely this couple that poses the problem in some countries.

Dominica and Camille may be just pixels, but they represent a homosexual couplethat it will therefore be possible to marry in The Sims 4: Weddings. Except that same-sex marriage is forbidden in Russia, so the developers shared a long message to explain that the extension will not be available in this country :

A letter from The Sims team to our players

Yesterday, we introduced you to The Sims 4 “Wedding” game pack and Dominique and Camille, a couple whose love knows no bounds. Today we want to tell you why we made the decision not to release this pack in Russia.

Celebrate love, your way

Over the years, we’ve been thrilled to see how your Sims have found love and celebrated that love at weddings in our base game. You also shared with us how excited you are to walk down the aisle, and see your Sims sit up and shed tears of joy at seeing you commit for life.

When we created Marriage, this is the vision we had for our global community: the joy of finding love, celebrating that love, and telling stories that have personal meaning.

Imagining the stories our players will tell with our packs is at the heart of everything we create. For “Wedding”, we were eager to introduce you to Dom and Cam. Their love story mirrors the experiences of many of our community and team members.

As we moved forward in our brand development and storytelling process, we realized that the way we wanted to tell Cam and Dom’s story was not something we could freely share around the world.

A commitment to our values

The ability to tell stories – any story – is central to what we do in The Sims. Not telling Cam and Dom’s story would have compromised the values we hold dear. We want to give you the freedom to be who you are, to love who you love, and to tell the stories you want to tell.

What does this mean for you, our players? We’re determined to uphold that commitment by highlighting and celebrating stories like Dom and Cam’s, and so we’ve decided to forgo the release of “Wedding” where our story should have been changed due to federal laws. .

Sadly, this means that members of The Sims in Russia community will not be able to purchase this game pack.

To all The Sims fans around the world: We are grateful to have you in our universe.

With all our love and gratitude,

The Sims team

Enter modify the content of its DLCs or refuse its exit to Russia, EA Games and Maxis have made their choice. I have to say that The Sims 4 regularly emphasizes tolerance and inclusion in its content, and the studios want to continue this momentum. It would also be surprising if Russia were the only country concerned by this story. As a reminder, extension Weddings will be launched on February 17and you can find The Sims 4 as well as its additional content at Gamesplanet.
