“The situation is urgent”: Omar Sy commits to the release of the French hostage Olivier Dubois

This Sunday, January 9, Omar Sy decided to support the family of Olivier Dubois, French journalist detained in Mali, in order to release him. On Twitter, the actor commits and signs.

An actor committed to freedom. This was once again proved by Omar Sy this Sunday, January 9, by supporting the French journalist Olivier Dubois, nearly nine months after his kidnapping by a jihadist group in Mali. On Twitter, the actor of Untouchables has published a message in which he does indeed take a position: ”Olivier is a son, a brother, a friend and a father of 47 years, he is the only French hostage in the world, since 8/4/21. The situation is urgent. Thanks for him”. A tweet in which he also announces having signed the petition launched this Thursday, January 6 by the family of Olivier Dubois.

The purpose of this petition, accessible on the Change.org site: that of “alert French citizens of the situation and question the French and Malian heads of state on his case and demand his release”, wrote the hostage’s family, who also deplore knowing nothing about what the journalist is going through: ‘‘This lack of information and this silence are unbearable on a daily basis, while Olivier is in an emergency situation”, pointed out his mother but also his sister, Canèle Bernard, and his spouse. A mobilization that goes beyond the family circle, since the newspaper Release, for whom Olivier Dubois worked regularly before his kidnapping, critic him also on Twitter the lack of “significant progress” on the journalist’s release.

Omar Sy’s unwavering commitment to defend all freedoms

Omar Sy, friend of Fred Testot, has repeatedly shown his commitment to causes dear to him, as in 2017 when he went to a Rohingya refugee camp in Bangladesh to participate in a humanitarian campaign in favor of of this oppressed people. An action that underscores what he said in February 2016 in the Large Journal on Canal +: Since we are all citizens, we all have responsibilities. We are also free to take whatever we want, or not to take any at all. The best is to do for others, and above all to do together “, he had then declared. By joining his voice to the thousands of other signatories of the petition to free Olivier Dubois, Omar Sy demonstrates that all those who work every day to inform us deserve that their freedom be respected.
