The smallest electric convertible in the world arrives with a canon price

A few months after being presented in concept form, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio is about to hit the market. It should arrive in Europe, and more precisely by Lithuania.

If you don’t know the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV, don’t worry, it’s completely normal. And for good reason, this tiny electric city car is only sold on the Chinese market. And yet, it was the best-selling electric car in China in 2021, then ahead of the Tesla Model 3. A real tour de force for this amazing little car, which is available in a brand new version.

A discoverable variation

It is therefore the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio, a convertible variant that is not completely new. And for good reason, it was officially revealed last April at the Shanghai show. But it was then at that time only a simple concept car, announcing a future production model. So here it is, while it will be officially marketed in Chinese concessions from this Thursday, September 1, as related by the site Cnevpost. A final version which remains very close to the concept, since it takes up almost line for line the rather cute lines, it must be admitted.

Some elements have however been slightly retouched, in particular at the level of the shields and the front and rear optics. These modifications could also be found on the restyled version of the classic city car. Only three body colors will be available, namely green, blue and black.

The soft top opens for its part thanks to an electric mechanism, while the locking remains manual. On board, a new dashboard is appearing, but very little information has been communicated for the moment. We only know that two people can fit on board.

The smallest convertible in the world

At just 3.06m long, the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Cabrio remains the smallest convertible in the world today., ahead of the electric Fiat 500. For now, the Chinese manufacturer, associated with SAIC Motors has not yet given much information on the technical data sheet of its convertible city car.

We only know that it is equipped with an electric motor and that two versions will be available, allowing between 200 and 300 kilometers on a single charge. The convertible should take over the 26 kWh battery of the coupe, as well as its 30 kW motor, or 40 horsepower.

Wuling Hongguang Mini EV Convertible

This newcomer to the range will be sold between 40,000 and 60,000 yuan, or the equivalent of 5,800 to 8,700 euros depending on the current exchange rate., which makes the convertible the least expensive in the world. On the other hand, nothing has been said about an arrival in Europe. However, this cannot be ruled out, as many Chinese brands such as Nio, Xpeng or BYD plan to make their way to Europe.

Especially since the current Wuling Hongguang Mini EV is marketed in Lithuania under the name Freze Nikrob between 9,990 and 14,990 euros. The convertible version could therefore arrive in Europe, via Lithuania, probably under 20,000 euros.
