It’s official ! You can now add your driving license to your smartphone, we’ll explain how it works.
After tests, it’s official: the driving license is entering the all-digital era and, frankly, it will change our lives. No more having to turn over the entire house because you forgot your license before leaving for work. Le Parisien announces to us, after a conclusive test phase, the digital driving license is available on our smartphone.
So, for the magic to work, you first need this famous electronic identity card (CNIe). More than 17 million people already have it, and it’s a bit like the sesame that opens all doors.
How it works ?
Your driving license can be found in the France Identity app, available on iOS and Android, in the “Portfolio” tab. And there you have it, you are ready to face the controls without sweating profusely.
Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin-Clerc, head of ANTS, assures, in an interview with Le Parisien, that it is much more than a simple copy of our license on the telephone. This is a real time saver during checks. The police, with their new NEO smartphones equipped with NFC, scan our digital license in an instant. No need to look for the license, no need to enter the number, everything is instantaneous.
This new generation license, viewable without even needing an internet connection (practical for white areas), will also serve as proof of online identity. It will not replace our physical documents, it is a certified copy of an administrative document.
That’s not all. The application will also allow you to create driving proof with just a few taps on the screen. And this official and secure document can be shared in no time by e-mail or via MMS, WhatsApp, etc.
And the story doesn’t end there: the application will soon host the registration document and insurance in digital version. Trials begin at the end of the year.
