The Twitter Tips feature was launched to the first time last september. It allows users to link their payment details to third-party services such as Venmo or Cash App.
Moreover, in this initiative, Twitter had integrated the possibility of tipping in Bitcoin (BTC) via the Lightning Network on mobile.
“Like Twitter, cryptocurrencies operate without global barriers. We are excited to integrate Ethereum in addition to Bitcoin payment into Tips, enabling more people to participate in the digital economy,” a company spokesperson said.
Thus, this news testifies to the will of Twitter to integrate cryptocurrencies to his social network.
Twitter opens up to blockchain-related technologies
Besides the development of cryptocurrency tipping functionalityTwitter has also turned to non-fungible tokens (NFTs).
Indeed, the social network recently launched the verification of profile photos in the form of NFTs. However, this new feature is reserved for Twitter Blue subscribers.
Users can connect their wallet and select any NFTs to add it to their Twitter profile.
Finally, with these different experiences, Twitter decided to create a dedicated blockchain team to decentralize the social network.
The objective for the latter is first of all to look on Twitter’s future cryptocurrency strategy and to explore means of decentralization.
