The Spider Head 2: All information about the Netflix sequel with Chris Hemsworth and “Top Gun: Maverick” star Miles Teller

The Spider Head 2: Start Date

So far, Netflix hasn’t confirmed a sequel to The Spider’s Head, so it could remain a single completed film. On the other hand, “The Spider’s Head” is currently running very successfully on Netflix, which makes a second part quite likely. This would then probably be officially announced in July or August 2022, but a start on Netflix would probably not be expected until 2024.

The Spider Head 2: Storyline

The plot of “Spiderhead” seems to have already concluded: Jeff and Lizzy were able to escape from the Spiderhead facility and have now also served their sentence, so they are free. Steve Abnesti, on the other hand, flew his plane into a mountain while under the influence of his own drugs.

Abnesti’s former partner, Mark, led the police to Spiderhead Island, bringing the experiments to an end. Since “Spiderhead” is based on George Saunders’ short story “Escape from Spiderhead” and is not intended to be a sequel, the ending of the film is round and satisfying. Still, a sequel is easily feasible, as these theories of ours show.

Abnesti is not dead

“The Spider’s Head” indicates quite clearly that Steve Abnesti dies in a plane crash, but at least we see his plane explode and Abnesti himself is sitting in the cockpit a few seconds earlier. Still, we don’t see him die, so it’s possible, although quite unlikely, that Abnesti survived the blast or somehow jumped out of the plane before flying into the mountain.

So it would be possible for Abnesti to appear again as a villain in “Spiderhead 2”. Netflix would certainly be interested in this development, after all it would mean the return of Chris Hemsworth.

Beautiful new world

“Spiderhead” takes place exclusively in (or in the vicinity of) the Spiderhead facility, we only see the outside world in the flashbacks showing Jeff’s past. So we don’t know if the drugs developed by Abnesti might have been in circulation yet.

While Abnesti’s plan was to develop a drug that would make his subjects incapacitated and receptive to commands, the other active ingredients would certainly find buyers, and the proceeds could have helped Abnesti keep his experiments going.

So, after Jeff and Lizzy return to civilization, they might find out that while they’ve put the spiderhead and Abnesti behind, his drugs are still ubiquitous. So they would potentially mess with a pharmaceutical company that now owns the rights to Abnesti’s drugs.

The Spider Head 2: Cast

From today’s point of view, there is nothing to prevent Miles Teller from returning as Jeff and Jurnee Smollett as Lizzy in “Spiderhead 2”. Mark Paguio could also reprise his role as Mark, while Chris Hemsworth is unlikely to reprise his role as Steve Abnesti so far.

In addition, it is questionable whether director Joseph Kosinski would also be involved in a sequel, since he is currently in great demand in Hollywood due to the great success of “Top Gun: Maverick”.
