The Spider Within: a short film from the Spider-Verse viewable for free on YouTube

The release of the film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, initially scheduled for April 3, 2024, has been postponed indefinitely. To console fans, Sony Pictures Animation studio unveiled a new short film on March 27 based on the inner adventures of Miles Morales. It is available for free on YouTube.

This short seven-minute opus shows us Miles Morales overwhelmed by anxiety and his responsibilities both as Spider-Man, but also as a student and teenager. A pressure that will lead him to face his inner demons, and to ask his father for beneficial help.

The Spider Withinaccessible to all on the YouTube platform, was released in partnership with the Kevin Love Fund, a mental health aid and awareness organization created in 2018.

The video aims to raise funds to combat this public health problem, and to support an initiative of the association (called The Hero Within), which invites young people to share their stories and problems.

The Spider Within is directed by Jarelle Dampier (storyboarder on the series What If…? And Invincible) and written by Khaila Amazan (the series Curses!). Actors Shameik Moore and Brian Tyree Henry lend their voices to Miles and his father.

Dampier also clarified the objective of his film to our colleagues at Variety : “Miles represents so many of us doing the best we can in our everyday lives. We often don’t realize how much we’ve been through until our own bodies force us to become aware of its experience “did he declare.

He keeps on : “My intention is that The Spider Within can motivate deeper conversations among friends and family about their own mental health journeys — and I hope this feels like a love letter to those who adore Miles Morales”.

The short film comes out almost a year later Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Versesequel to the film Spider-Man: New Generation (2018) which confronted the young Miles Morales with his alter ego superheroes from other dimensions.

The third film Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Versewhich was originally supposed to be released this year, required more work than expected and saw its release pushed back by Sony, without further details.
