Dream and family casting for Guillaume Canet’s new film, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Empire, since his son Marcel is making his film debut there!
Cinema is obviously a family affair for Guillaume Canet! Indeed, the actor turned director is about to unveil his new production, and not least, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdomexpected in theaters on February 1, 2023. A film at dream cast, starring Guillaume Canet himself in the role of Asterix, but also Gilles Lellouche, who embodies Obélix, as well as many other personalities such as Jonathan Cohen, Vincent Cassel, Ramzy Bedia, José Garcia, or even Manu Payet and Angèle, without forgetting Orelsan, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But that’s not all, because Marion Cotillard, the mother of her two children Marcel and Louiseis also part of the cast, since she plays the role of Cleopatra.
A family story which does not stop there, since for the first time, the little Marcel will follow in his parents’ footsteps in this feature film which is not adapted from an Asterix and Obelix comic strip, and which tells the imaginary story of the Empress of China, imprisoned following a coup d’etat by the traitorous prince. Princess Fu Yi, her only daughter, then fled to Gaul to ask for help from Asterix and Obelix, who then made their way to the Middle Empire to save the sovereign and liberate the country. A whole program in which the son of Marion Cotillard and Guillaume Canet, aged 11, makes a small appearance in a flashback sequence where he plays young Asterixas revealed Tele-Leisure.
