The more attractive teachers appear, the better children perform in school
It is a scientific study published at the beginning of 2023 which advances this surprising argument. Conducted in Romania on nearly 173 pupils, the study in question analyzed the psychological effects of teachers’ “clothing” attractiveness on their students.
By “attractive clothing,” researchers mean “elegant clothes”, formal: “Based on the dress factors of the study, one can easily conclude that an attractive outfit represents the formal business attirewhile an outfit deemed unattractive is closer to the casual style.”*
Thus, the more the style and dress of a teacher are considered attractive and classy by the students, the more positive the judgment they have of him, the better they perform academically. But then, how to explain it? The researchers give several reasons.

It’s simple: when the teacher is considered attractive, students are even more willing to workdo their homework (and extra homework), listen and participate in class, attend support courses, even optional ones. “When the teacher is perceived as being more attractive, students are more open to school and/or extracurricular activities”, say the researchers. Therefore, since they are more studious at school and in their extracurricular and extracurricular activitiesthey end up being top students.
Thus, it is not the attractiveness of the teacher in itself that makes children perform better: it is the motivation that this beauty provokes in them. Additionally, the study researchers pointed out that the more attractive the professor’s appearance was judged to be, the more the child tended to see him as very competent, transmitter of an education of excellent quality. The authors of the study detail this finding as follows:
“Children judging the teacher to be more attractive in clothing, say that he presents the lesson more clearly, is more organized when he gives his lesson, that he knows the subject better, cares more about the pupils, captures their attention more and is even better prepared for the lesson than the less attractive teacher.”*
