The release of the Pixel 8 and 8 Pro is fast approaching, but before that, we already know everything about the screens used by Google on its smartphones. These would be signed Samsung Display.
As the Pixel 8 launch date approaches, Google’s high-end smartphone specs continue to get clearer. After revealing what can be expected from the Tensor G3 chip, but also the details of the photo part of the devices, Android Authority has now revealed the technical characteristics of the screens.
The good news is that we now know that the Pixel 8 will correct one of the biggest flaws of the previous model, failing to improve wireless charging. The smartphone will this year be equipped with a 120 Hz screenwhile the Pixel 7 had to make do with a 90 Hz panel. The device therefore promises to be more fluid than ever, and is now aligned with the Pro model.
The Pixel 8 will get smaller
Another size change for the Pixel 8 is the downsizing. The smartphone will offer a screen of only 6.17 inches (against 6.31 inches on the Pixel 7), and will then rank among the “small” format Android devices. We will also find an FHD + definition (1080 x 2400 pixels) and a brightness boosted to 1400 nits peak.
The Pixel 8 Pro is also entitled to its share of improvements. Google has decided to reduce the definition of the 6.70 inch panel to 1344 x 2992 pixelsbut took the opportunity to increase the brightness to 1600 nits. It is therefore a significant increase, since we remember, the Pixel 7 Pro only went up to 1000 nits peak.
Finally, note that Google will change the shape of its smartphones, since they will now be a little more rounded on the corners. The Pixel 8 Pro should also benefit from a flat screenwhile it was curved on the previous generation.
On the image below, you can find a summary of all the changes expected on the screen of future smartphones. Given the arrival of 120Hz on the Pixel 8, next year’s Pixel 8a is expected to benefit from the same improvement. However, we will have to wait several more months before we can be sure.
