The Tesla Model 3 freaks out the counters and lectures its Chinese rival, the MG4

After being left behind by the MG4, the Tesla Model 3 is regaining momentum and is placed 2nd on the podium in the ranking of the best-selling electric cars in Europe. The Model Y still remains in the lead, all engines combined.

If Tesla’s situation was very worrying last year in China and the United States, everything seems to be going well today. And this is due in particular to the incredible price reductions made on its Model 3 and Model Y since the start of the year. And it is possible that other operations of this type will take place a little later.

Tesla in the lead

Especially since these discounts do not cut too much into the manufacturer’s margin and they allowed the latter to explode its sales. Thus, the Model Y was even the best-selling car worldwide, all engines combined at the start of the year.

And this for several months already, thanks to its displayed price from 45,990 euros, without having deducted the ecological bonus of 5,000 euros. No wonder he’s still the best-selling electric car in Europe in August, as reported by the specialized firm Jato. Better yet, with 21,549 units sold, the SUV was even the most registered model on the Old Continent, all engines combined.

Its sales have in fact climbed 208% in one year, which few cars can boast of. To tell the truth, only another car does better. This is the Tesla Model 3, which increased its registrations by 307% compared to August 2022. The sedan has been sold 11,943 copies and was the 2nd most registered electric car in Europe this summer.

Enough to allow Tesla to get closer to its objective of selling 1.8 million cars by the end of the year worldwide. A great comeback for the one which was for several months overtaken by the MG4, due in particular to its advantageous price located under 30,000 euros. A trend also valid for the French market in September. In July, the electric compact was in 4th position but fell back to 6th place, with 6,302 units sold, compared to 5,890 the previous month.

The rise of electric

The fault of the Volkswagen group which is also progressing with an ID.3 which is placed at the foot of the podium with 6,385 registrations. The compact, whose production had to be slowed down due to insufficient demand, seems to be regaining momentum and sees its sales increase by 86% in one year, to the point of getting closer to the ID.4 and overtaking the Skoda Enyaq.

We note the total absence of French cars in this ranking, while the Dacia Spring is still doing very well with its 5,799 sales. The city car benefits from still being eligible for the ecological bonus, which will no longer be the case next year, as for the MG4 and Tesla Model 3. Then follow the Fiat 500e and Cupra Born, as well as the BMW iX1 which makes its entry into the ranking.

Overall, theNew car sales increased by 20% in Europe, while electrics rose 102% compared to last year. If gasoline still remains the preferred engine for motorists on the Old Continent, with a market share of 53%, registrations of zero-emission models (exhaust) have exceeded those of diesel on a European scale.

We note that MG’s market share increased significantly in August, going from less than 1% in 2022 to more than 1.5% this year. This trend could accelerate even more since the manufacturer plans to build factories on the Old Continent in order to produce its MG4 there. The latter should then cost a little more.
