The political involvement of the family of little Emile has been regularly singled out since the start of the investigations. Could the thesis of a settling of scores be credible?
More than three weeks after the disappearance of little Emile, 2 and a half years old, the investigators are still studying all the theories, from the most credible to the most crazy. At present, no lead is privileged to explain the volatilization of little Emile S, who has not been seen since July 8, 2023. He was then playing near the home of his grandparents, where he took advantage of his very first day of vacation in the hamlet of Haut-Vernet (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence). Among the hypotheses that are investigated, one of them is particularly intriguing. It is that of revenge against a background of political opinion.
It must be said that Emile’s family is particularly militant. The father of the little boy, Colomban, was particularly singled out for his past as an extreme right-wing activist. Now a structural engineer, he was an active member of Action Française, then very involved in the small group Bastion social Marseille. In 2021, he was also highly placed on the Zou list! of Eric Zemmour in Marseille. La Dépêche tells us that he appeared before the Aix-en-Provence criminal court in 2018. He was then implicated for an assault against a background of xenophobia. A case in which he was released, described as “a mistake of youth” by the relatives of the young father of the family.

Activism, a family affair
Both on his father’s side and on his mother’s side, Emile’s family is strongly committed to his ideas. In 2019, already, an arson set a family home up in flames, located a few dozen kilometers from Vernet. This house was part of a small group, created in the 1960s by Emile’s great-grandfather and some of his friends. All driven by activism “not very left” as one of the founders of this small community put it in Parisian.
If the outbreak of fire remained unresolved, the choice of these houses could have been linked to the displayed political opinion of their occupants. If it remains to be demonstrated that it could be a motive for making a child disappear four years later, this kind of commitment can lead to creating enemies. The investigators are not closing any leads, and the family’s past is being investigated in depth. However, this thesis is not favored more than any other.
