Pokrovsk: at least seven people killed by two Russian missiles

Rescuers resumed the search for survivors at dawn on Tuesday in the rubble of the residential building badly damaged by the firing of two Russian missiles in Pokrovsk, eastern Ukraine. “Seven people died. Sixty-seven were injured.”thus announced on X (ex Twitter) Pavlo Kyrylenko, head of the military administration of Donetsk, revising downwards a previous balance sheet of eight dead which he had given Monday evening.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Igor Klymenko confirmed the toll of seven dead and 67 injured, adding that 29 police officers, seven rescue workers and two children are among the latter. Relief operations, interrupted during the night because of the risk of new bombardments, resumed Tuesday at dawn, he said.

“Two missiles hit. An ordinary residential building was hit”, Volodymyr Zelensky had declared on X (ex-Twitter). He posted a video showing people being pulled from the rubble of a five-story, Soviet-era building that lost its top floor in the strike.

Pokrovsk, located 70 km northwest of Donetsk, had a pre-war population of 60,000. “Today we are overwhelmed by pain, anger, tears”the Pokrovsk military administration wrote on Facebook.
