New stars of anti-aging, these new generation active ingredients will become your next beautiful skin allies. Bethsabée Coutaz, scientific director Dr Pierre Ricaud, helps us see things more clearly.

Cosmetics is a flourishing and ultra-innovative market. Scientific discoveries to improve the appearance of our skin are linked, to such an extent that it is sometimes difficult to navigate. But in recent months, a new challenge has been imposed on brands: the quest for naturalness. “Consumers are increasingly demanding: they want both visible and immediate results, but also the most natural active ingredients possible,” explains Bethsabée Coutaz. A major challenge that pushes cosmetologists to review their formula and find new ingredients that are as effective as they are safe. A brief overview of the new anti-aging active ingredients to bet on for more beautiful and younger looking skin.

Flavonoids

Powerful antioxidants, flavonoids have already proven their health benefits. But recently, they have been talked about in the world of cosmetics. Their main interest? These are 100% natural active ingredients capable of preventing skin aging and fighting blemishes. “Flavonoids are the pigments responsible for the coloring of plants, explains our expert. They have a very interesting protective function”. It is found in fruits, vegetables, plants and even coffee and tea. The goal of scientists specializing in cosmetics is to isolate plants that are naturally very rich in them to boost the effectiveness of our anti-aging creams. “Galanga, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine, is, for example, an ingredient of choice for treating wrinkles: full of flavonoids, it fights free radicals and is also capable of stimulating our own production of hyaluronic acid”.

Niacinamide

Also known as nicotinamide, niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 that does not stop talking about it. Ingredient naturally synthesized by the human body, we find quite a few in the epidermis. And yet, its benefits on the skin are numerous: “it reforms the skin barrier, it acts on the refinement of skin texture, it fades brown spots”, lists Bethsabée Coutaz. In a few months, niacinamide has become an essential anti-aging active ingredient. “Warning, although natural, niacinamide can cause small tingling,” warns the expert.

bakuchiol

“It’s the perfect active ingredient for anyone looking for a natural alternative to retinol”. From the seeds of the psoralea corylifolia plant, also called babchi, bakuchiol is a very interesting anti-aging antioxidant. It not only acts on depigmentation by reducing the intensity of dark spots, it also stimulates the production of collagen in the epidermis. Used over several weeks, the skin is more supple, smoother and wrinkles less visible. And unlike its synthetic competitor, it is very well tolerated, even by the most sensitive skin.

Peptides

We’ve been hearing about it for a few years, but the action of the peptides still remains unclear to many. These small molecules that form short chains of amino acids function as messengers. Applied topically, they send signals to the skin to produce more collagen, hyaluronic acid or even elastin. In a few weeks of use, the peptides will improve the structure of the skin, reduce wrinkles and fine lines. They will also be able to limit the synthesis of melanin and thus reduce brown spots and prevent their appearance.
