Fortunately, they succeeded, and this mother reveals their technique to us to decide thanks to a calculation.
Indeed, they used a mathematical exercise to choose more efficiently. They took a list of 1,000 boys’ names and put them in a spreadsheet. In the software, they then each filled in a column by associating a number with each first name : “1 meant ‘no’, 2 meant ‘maybe’, 3 meant ‘yes’.“Then they added up the ‘notes’ in a new column. If the result was 6, then they both said ‘yes’, 5 represented a ‘yes’ and a ‘maybe’, 4 a ‘yes’ ” and one “no” or two “maybe”, 3 one “maybe” and one “no” and 2 two “no”.
Then choose between the top first names on their list
Then only the best names remained in their shortened list. “We started the process again with this list, which gave us the top ones, and we chose from those. It worked like a charm“, confides then this mother. A technique that has pleased many Internet users, including a mother who admitted to having done the same thing, but in paper version. “We added names to a magnetic list on the fridge for several months. When we got close to giving birth, we made two copies and crossed out the ones we hated and would never have used for our baby. Then we made a new list with those who remained. We started again to have a shorter list after a few days, until we were down to three (round two and three were more ‘meh, I don’t like’ and ‘not thrilled’ , unlike the first round where it was ‘absolutely out of the question’). Then we decided which one would look best on the baby when we met her!”
