The vertiginous jump of Fred Fugen in La Clusaz

Fred Fugen has just unveiled his latest video, filmed as a two-minute loop, in which he launches into the void above La Clusaz.

We had left it flying over the pyramids of Egypt and we find it again on the white landscapes of La Clusaz. Fred Fugen has just unveiled his new video, shot in the French station. From the first seconds, the tone is set: this clip is not made for people who suffer from vertigo. In fact, we see the unavoidable champion, specialist in wingsuit flights and professional BASE jumper, launching into the void from a chairlift. He then performs tricks, skis on, while descending in free fall. We follow him from the jump at an altitude of 6500 meters when he deploys his parachute, at 4000 meters, until his arrival on the immaculate snow of La Clusaz, descending the mountain at full speed, carried by his sail.

“This flight is a tribute to Vince Reffet”, explains the Frenchman in a press release. His flight partner for 20 years, with whom they formed an inseparable aerobatic duo, the Soul Flyers, tragically disappeared in 2020, at the age of 36, during training in Dubai. “We had imagined this project together in 2018, and had started to train both of us to carry it out. It was he who designed the mutant harness that I use which allows me to go from freefall to speedriding”, comments Fred Fugen. “Vince is the person I have spent the most time with in my life. Our relationship was unique and rare: without talking to each other, each was able to know what the other was thinking”, had confided Fred Fugen to Paris Match in November 2021. “The Soul Flyers are a state of mind. Today, it’s a bit just me, but I would like it to continue,” he added.
