Apple’s Vision Pro headset has a surprise in terms of its connectivity © Apple

While theiPhone 15 switched to USB-C, the very recent Apple Vision Pro benefits from… unprecedented connectivity.

It will be officially available tomorrow in stores (in the United States), but Apple’s Vision Pro headset has already arrived at many American journalists and influencers. The opportunity to discover various unboxings of the Vision Pro, with some first impressions, but also some interesting details, such as the presence… of a Lightning port?

Lightning on board Apple’s Vision Pro?

Indeed, while the first American customers will be able to put on their Vision Pro from this Friday, February 2, Apple’s headset has already been widely scrutinized by many professionals. And if Apple took care to lock many elements concerning its Vision Pro, we have just discovered that the latter had obviously not completely drawn a line under the Lightning connection.

It’s Ray Wong, from Reverse, who had the curiosity to remove the Vision Pro’s power cable from its small battery, using the tool usually used to eject a SIM card. This made it possible to remove the cable, and to discover a Lightning connection that was unusual to say the least.

Twelve pins instead of eight

Indeed, if Apple’s Lightning port is made up of 8 pins, the cable that powers the Vision Pro is very similar, except that the latter has a total of 12 pins. The Lightning port is therefore still relevant at Apple, although with a new, unprecedented thickness.

At present, it is difficult to know what could have motivated Apple to include this type of connection to power its very recent Vision Pro, especially when the European Union is pushing (strongly) in favor of USB-C.

Because by using a classic USB-C port instead of this new connection, users could then have used any battery to power the Vision Pro, and not a specific Apple battery, as is the case here. So of course, you can always plug an external battery into the USB-C port of the Apple battery (are you following?), but we have to admit that the portability side takes a hit.
