The Visitors: pause at 40 minutes and 53 seconds, and take a good look at this sign

Broadcast this evening on TF1, “Les Visiteurs” by Gérard Oury conceals a few amusing little details. Throwback to one of these discreet winks, which you may not have noticed.

Of course Les Visiteurs, a mythical French comedy directed by Jean-Marie Poiré in 1993 and broadcast this evening on TF1, does not include as many hidden details as a feature film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe or an animated film from Pixar studios.

However, without equaling the level of an American blockbuster, the temporal adventures of Godfrey the Bold and Jacquouille the Rogue still contains a few small easter eggs, which you may have managed to spot if you know the film inside out.

Indeed, when you (re) discover the feature film tonight on television, we advise you, for example, to open your eyes to 40 minutes and 53 seconds. In the sequence where Beatrice de Montmirail (Valérie Lemercier) has just recovered Godefroy (who is in fact her ancestor straight from the 12th century) from the psychiatric hospital, pay particular attention to the plaques hanging on the wall of the establishment.

You will be able to note that they indicate the way towards the services directed by “doctor A. Terzian” and by “professor P. Ledoux”. A discreet little reference to the two producers of the film: Alain Terzian and Patrice Ledoux.

But this easter egg is far from the only one hiding in The Visitors. In addition to a reference to Operation Corned Beef (Jean-Marie Poiré’s previous feature film) or a cameo by Gérard Vives (actor from Girls Next Door), we also recommend that you take a look at a seemingly innocuous photograph, placed right next to Jacquouille the Rogue, a little later in the film.

During the famous sequence where we can see Godfrey’s squire answer the phone by imitating animal cries of all kinds, at 48 minutes and 27 seconds to be exact, take a good look at the frame to his right (and therefore to the left of the screen).

We can see a snapshot of Jean-Pierre, Béatrice’s dentist husband played by Christian Bujeau, who seems to beg his wife not to take a picture of him, judging by his embarrassed hand sign. A fun little detail that most viewers had probably never noticed.
