Alvaro Soler takes the red chair at "The Voice Kids" for the first time. In the interview, he raves about the courage of the young candidates.

New episodes, new talents, new coaches: "The Voice Kids" starts its ninth season this Saturday (February 27th) (at 8:15 pm on Sat.1). This year, in addition to the well-known jurors Michi Beck (53), Smudo (52) and Stefanie Kloß (36), two new faces can take a seat on the red chair: Wincent Weiss (28, "Who if not us") and Alvaro Soler (30 , "La Cintura"). The latter is confident of victory in an interview with the news agency spot on news. In addition, the Spanish-German musician reveals which German artist he would like to do something together with in the future.

Mr. Soler, this year you are part of "The Voice Kids" for the first time. What do you particularly like about the show?

Alvaro Soler: The coolest thing about the show is this chair, it's so red and it just rotates (laughs). You hear the voices through the loudspeakers and then there is a brief moment: Okay, all right, that could be a boy, maybe eleven years old. And then you just press, turn around, and there's an eight-year-old girl. It's so mega cool. That's "The Voice Kids", that's what defines this show.

Do you think you can handle the small candidates well?

Soler: Yeah, I think so. I have a good empathy and try to make sure that everyone feels comfortable on the show and that nobody is afraid of the stage. I mean, the children are very brave anyway to be there and just join in. I wouldn't have dared to do that when I was eight or eleven.

How do you rate your coaching colleagues? Do you have a chance to win this year?

Soler: Definitely, yes. I will win. But the others are good too. I just don't want to give too much away just yet.

Are there any major changes in the shooting due to the corona pandemic?

Soler: There is no audience, which I find very, very gross. It's not so strange for me because I've never been on "The Voice". I haven't had any TV shows or appearances for a long time due to my break, which I took in 2020, so of course it's nice to be here at all. We have to take a test every day so that we don't take any risks. It could also be that someone else was infected on the train in the evening. We have to walk around with masks all the time and are only allowed to take them off on stage.

Can you imagine getting involved in the greats of "The Voice of Germany"?

Soler: Why not? That would be a cool challenge. I think the coaching is different there because adult singers already have well-trained voices. But our kids bring the same talent with them!

Wincent Weiss is also there for the first time this year, you have just been seen in his new music video. What do you think of your colleague?

Soler: Wincent is totally cool. It's already the second show I'm doing with him. In 2019 we were both at "Sing my Song". I think it's impressive how he does his thing. Wincent is currently one of the most successful pop artists in Germany. It's nice to be part of it. We're the two younger guys at "The Voice Kids" – although now that I'm 30, I may not be anymore. I'm still 29 in the blind auditions (laughs)! In any case, we get along very well on the show.

In addition to Wincent Weiss, you have already worked with Nico Santos. Is there still a German artist with whom you would like to record something?

Soler: Yes, I would like to do something with LEA one day. Funnily enough, I met her at a songwriting camp in Austria, about five years ago. After that we unfortunately had no more contact. Then I saw that she was very successful in Germany and I was really happy for her.
