Even if the last seasons of The Walking Dead (which ended in November 2022 after 12 years of broadcast) did not really make an impression, we must admit that in its heyday, the famous post- apocalyptic adaptation of the work of Robert Kirkman has regularly offered its fans anthology moments.

Brutal and merciless from its first episode, The Walking Dead actually made its spectators tremble on numerous occasions, and for several years, for example in the face of the cruel Governor or during the brief stay of the protagonists at the Terminal.

But the scene that traumatized all fans without exception, the one that marked the history of television, the one that we quote first without taking the time to think about it for more than a second, is at the end from season 6.

Indeed, at the end of the last episode entitled Last Day on EarthRick and his companions found themselves in a more desperate situation than ever, and the season ended on an absolutely masterful cliffhanger.

If you have never seen the series yet, we advise you to move on and not read the rest of this article.

Facing Negan

We are therefore at the end of season 6, episode 16. Convinced of having the upper hand over the Saviors – a new group of unknown survivors who have recently been causing them some problems – Rick and his friends are gradually losing their confidence.

After being forced to turn back several times when encountering roadblocks installed by the rival gang, they are now forced to advance on foot, in the middle of the forest, and in the middle of the night. All around them, mysterious whistling sounds are heard, and tension rises.

Suddenly, spotlights turn on, and the heroes find themselves surrounded by a veritable army of Saviors. Rick, Daryl, Eugene, Carl, Abraham, Glenn, Maggie, Rosita, Michonne, Sacha and Aaron, forced to kneel in front of their attackers, then prepare to meet the most formidable of all their enemies: the terrible Negan.

The latter comes out of his trailer whistling, wearing a leather jacket and carrying a baseball bat surrounded by barbed wire. Furious at the residents of Alexandria, who have eliminated several of his men, Negan tells Rick that he is going to use his bat to randomly execute one of the group’s members.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan is Negan in “The Walking Dead”

Who did Negan kill?

Faced with the terrified looks of his prisoners, Negan then begins to count, and ends up pointing out his victim, whom he beats to death. Who is it ? Impossible to guess, because for the last seconds of the episode, the camera switched to first-person view. Spectators will therefore be asking the question for more than 6 months, until the broadcast of season 7.

This unbearable wait, which hundreds of theories and heated discussions on social networks had tried in vain to soften, ended in October 2016, in the episode lugubriously titled The day will come when you will no longer be.

We therefore learned that Negan had murdered Abraham at the end of season 6. But unfortunately, the surprise did not stop there. Because the bat of the sinister despot also ended up falling without warning on Glenn’s head. A truly traumatic twist for all fans of The Walking Dead.
