The Walking Dead – Dead City: Were the super zombies forgotten in the spin-off with Negan and Maggie?

THE WALKING DEAD: DEAD CITY

None of the super zombies have yet appeared in The Walking Dead: Dead City, although they were introduced in TWD’s finale. Were they just forgotten?

  • “The Walking Dead: Dead City” has so far omitted the super zombies that appeared in the finale of “The Walking Dead”.
  • Did the TWD makers just forget about their new creation?
  • Perhaps the evolved undead appear in “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”.

Evolved zombies became a big topic towards the end of The Walking Dead. Special super zombies also played a role in the spin-off “The Walking Dead: World Beyond”.

But in “The Walking Dead: Dead City” these variants were strangely not yet an issue. “Fear the Walking Dead” didn’t take advantage of the introduction of the super zombies either, preferring to focus on the PADRE storyline. Were the new zombies just forgotten?

That’s why it would be a big mistake not to let the super zombies also appear in the TWD spin-offs

Why are the TWD makers introducing these highly developed zombies at all if they and their creation weren’t also a topic in the spin-offs. Possibly they were just a cheap way to create some tension in the mother series, which was already quite dormant.

Especially with the density of undead in “The Walking Dead: Dead City” it would be great to present Negan and Maggie with new challenges and even more dangerous zombies. But so far “Dead City” does exactly what TWD did at the end: It focuses on human enemies. To completely ignore the super zombies would be wasted potential.

In this TWD spin-off, the super zombies could become important again

Since “World Beyond” we have known that research was carried out on the zombie virus in France. It may have originated there, but it may also have been further developed there, so that these strong zombie variants could develop in the first place. Daryl Dixon just so happens to land there in his own TWD spin-off.

So Daryl could meet the super zombies in France and maybe find out the origin of the apocalypse as well. If “The Walking Dead: Dead City” does not use this “new” zombie species at all, hopefully we will finally get our answers in “The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon”.

A new episode of The Walking Dead: Dead City airs every Thursday on AMC+. With a trick you can already see the new TWD spin-off in Germany. “Daryl Dixon” will not be released until autumn 2023.
