While there’s a big theory that Rick Grimes takes over leadership of the Civic Republic Military at the end of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live, a new theory takes a completely different direction. Some fans believe that Michonne and Rick will become fire devils in the finale and burn down the military base.

Was the ethanol from episode 4 of The Ones Who Live a clue?

In the four episodes so far there have been some hints of a fiery end to the series. On the one hand, we see Rick and Michonne surrounded by flames in the posters for the spin-off and also the series logo. On the other hand, episode 4 of the TWD spin-off contains probably the biggest clue to date about the couple’s possible plans.

Rick and Michonne get into a car loaded with ethanol cans. The car runs on ethanol, so the two plan to drive it all the way to Alexandria. But in the trailer for episode 5 we can see that it won’t be that easy. Michonne even says that she now realizes that this story won’t end with the two of them just going home.

It’s possible that Michonne and Rick return to the CRM and burn down the military base. Ethanol would be a suitable fire accelerator for this. In episode 2 of “The Ones Who Live”, shortly after her arrival, we see Michonne lighting Nat’s old lighter as she assesses how big the military base really is from a raised platform. Fittingly, the lighter even says “Danger”.

The burning poster and logo, the ethanol canisters and the “Danger” lighter clearly indicate that Michonne is out for revenge. Ultimately, we have to wait for the grand finale on April 1, 2024. Perhaps in the end only the despotic Major General Beale, who has so far had a firm grip on the CRM as leader, will burn.
