The weather for Tuesday July 19: scorching temperatures head east, red alert lifted

Tuesday, July 19, the whole territory is affected by strong heat.

The extreme heat of recent days is shifting to the eastern half, where this Tuesday, July 18 will be the hottest day of the episode. The 40°C mark can be reached there as far as Hauts-de-France, and down to the center-east and the Rhône valley. In the west, after a tropical night, temperatures will rise much less during the day and the heat wave ends, with 10° to 15°C less than Monday. The Weather Channel* has lifted its red alert in 15 departments in the west of the country, but maintains an orange alert over most of the territory.

This heat wave is linked to the rise of a depression off Brittany which is bringing up hot air in a southerly flow. With the circulation of this depression towards the English Channel, the wind turns to the west on the Atlantic arc, explaining the drop in temperatures.

Météo France also lifted heatwave red vigilance on Tuesday morning in 15 departments on the Atlantic coast, but 73 departments remain on orange vigilance.
