The first trailer for “Wednesday” is here, and it promises the same morbid humor that fans of the “Addams Family” have loved so much.

The first atmospheric picture of the new Addams Family now follows the first trailer for “Wednesday”: Streaming provider Netflix provides around 130 seconds of deep black humor and Jenna Ortega (19) as the title character Wednesday Addams, who does not have to hide behind Christina Ricci’s (42) performance from the 90s when it comes to psychopathic energies.

A sample: She pours hungry piranhas into the pool of the swimming team at her former school – with bloody consequences! “I was doing the world a favor. People like Dalton shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce. Getting kicked out of school was just a bonus.”

Said expulsion from school is a central point of the story of the new series, which comes from morbidity master Tim Burton (63). Because as a final consequence, Wednesday ends up at Nevermore Academy, where her parents Morticia and Gomez Addams met and fell in love. The two are played in the series by Catherine Zeta-Jones (52) and Luis Guzmán (65).

Unusual mix

Meanwhile, “Game of Thrones” star Gwendoline Christie (43) can be seen as the principal of the local university, who apparently has her own bones to pick with the Addams. The absolute fan favorite of the “Addams Family” can also be seen briefly in the trailer – the ice-cold little hand lights a match in it and is certainly up to no good with it. Meanwhile, Christina Ricci is not seen in the trailer, but she will be on board as a guest star.

“Wednesday” is described as a mixture of horror comedy, coming-of-age and detective story. Or, as the always-black-clad girl puts it in the trailer: “Filled with mystery, madness and murder – I think I’m going to love this.”

The script for the series was penned by “Smallville” creators Alfred Gough (54) and Miles Millar (55). Burton himself took the director’s chair on four of the eight episodes planned so far. “Wednesday” should be available on Netflix this fall.
