“The whole world will miss him”: Brazil prepares for Pelé’s death

The state of health of the former footballer is increasingly worrying. Suffering from cancer and admitted to hospital at the end of November, his family gave his news at Christmas, posting several pictures on social networks. For their part, the Brazilians are preparing their farewells to King Pelé, who made them dream so much.

In Brazil, Pelé’s state of health is of growing concern. The last bulletin issued by the Albert Einstein Hospital in São Paulo, where he was admitted on November 29, spoke of a deterioration in his clinical condition. Since then, nothing. Concern is growing in the population. The latest news is from Christmas, when a photo of the whole family in the hospital room was posted on the Instagram account of one of Pelé’s daughters.

“I have never seen another football player do what Pelé did”

In the streets of Rio de Janeiro, the Brazilians are morose. This is the case of Ginelo Carvalho, 51 years old. “Brazilians are sad because Pelé is the icon of world football. He stood out and still stands out, even in the depths of his hospital bed. King Pelé will be greatly missed. Not just in Brazil, but in the world entire.”

Others, like Marco Nascimento, are already paying tribute to the genius footballer. “I’ve never seen another football player do what Pelé did. He had a great ability to improvise and he did things that were absolutely unexpected.” The hospital gave no indication of the date of the next health report.

Without really believing it, many Brazilians still hope that King Pelé will play extra time a little longer.
