Tips for collecting all gwent cards in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Get the guide, available in-game
First of all, know that it is possible to recover an item that can help you in your quest for gwent cards. It is the “Miraculous Guide to Gwent”, stating ” the number of missing cards in your collection “. It is possible to obtain it during the prologue, via the character introducing you to the game of gwent, or from the merchant in Novigrad, and more specifically the one near Pont-Saint-Grégoire. Note that at any time, you can, moreover, check the cards you have, from the in-game menu.
On our side, we had not recovered the said guide during our run for the Platinum from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. As a result, we had to organize ourselves differently. So, here is how we proceeded and what tools we used.
Rely on an interactive map
During our sessions to find all the gwent cards of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have very often used an interactive map, in particular the one we recommended in our guide dedicated to this question. We advise you to deselect all categories and decide to display only those relating to Gwent players and merchants, available in the region of your choice: Velen & Novigrad, Skellige, etc. This allows you to have an overview, but also to better see the location of these NPCs.
Visit the different NPCs
We recommend that you get into the following habit: visit all merchants and innkeepers and check their inventory, for yourselves. If they have gwent cards for sale, don’t hesitate to buy them, even if you think you already own said card. This will save you from having to go back to a place, if you made a mistake. Additionally, interact with herbalists, armorers, and other NPCs to see if they offer you a gwent party.
Complete Gwent Side Quests
As you probably already guessed, some side quests of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are related to the card game. Moreover, some of them require you to face several players, and this, in the same region. For example, in Velen, you will have to face different NPCs, including the Baron de Perchefreux, also known as “The Bloody Baron”, to obtain a unique card. In Skellige, you will have to fight rounds of gwent against Mousebag.
Take a particular interest in these quests, whose names always begin with “Gwent”. Moreover, we advise you to beat all the players in a region, before going to another area of the game. , may no longer be available thereafter. To obtain these quests and start them, you will have to consult the notice boards of the different cities.
Win the different tournaments and save regularly
Just like for the secondary quests, during your adventure on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, you will be required to participate in various tournaments. It is imperative to earn them, in order to obtain special gwent cards, required for said trophy/achievement. Note that if you lose a gwent fight, you will be eliminated and you will not be able to obtain said cards. Therefore, do not hesitate to regularly save your game.
