“The Witcher” multiverse planned: Is this how the change between Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth is explained?

THE WITCHER

Is The Witcher Multiverse Coming? At least, that’s what one producer implied in his interviews about the Henry Cavill and Liam Hemsworth transfers.

  • Netflix is changing the main actor in season 4 of “The Witcher” – that’s been known for a while.
  • Since the announcement, fans have been wondering how this change should go.
  • Some interviews by producer Tomek Baginski now suggest a kind of Marvel multiverse in the Netflix series.

After the third season of “The Witcher” there is a big change that many fans of the Netflix series are already afraid of. Henry Cavill leaves the series and from season 4 onwards the “Hunger Games” star Liam Hemsworth takes over as Geralt of Rivia. It is still unclear how exactly the replacement of the actors will be addressed in the series.

Now, however, Executive Producer Tomek Baginski has spoken to the US version of The Daily Express newspaper and hinted at how the new Geralt in the series will be explained.

We probably don’t have time to go into the core philosophical ideas behind the saga and define the Witcher world, but one of the big themes in The Witcher world is that every story can be told from many, many perspectives – and sometimes these perspectives and these versions of the stories are very, very different from what we thought was the truth.

Multiverse or unreliable narrator as a solution

So Geralt’s story could be retold in Season 4 by an unreliable narrator who doesn’t know what the “real” Geralt looks like. For example, the young Nimue verch Wledyr ap Gwyn, who will play a role in the books more often. Nimue is a future sorceress who takes a keen interest in the story of Ciri and Geralt. She and the sorceress Condwiramurs Tilly try to piece together the events surrounding them in the future.

But that wouldn’t explain why Ciri and Yennefer still look like themselves while Geralt becomes a whole new witcher. In another of Baginski’s interviews with Yahoo, he reveals that they had a very good plan for Cavill and Hemsworth to move, but he couldn’t go into it, “[aber] it’s also very, very close to the meta-ideas that run deep in the books, especially book five.”

Ciri discovers her ability to travel between different worlds in Book 5 of The Witcher saga by Andrzej Sapkowski. That’s sure to ring alarm bells for a lot of fans, because it sounds like Baginski is hinting at some kind of multiverse (like the latest Marvel and DC projects).

In another interview with the Radio Times, he also says about the change of actors: “It’s not just one world. It’s not just one story that happens in the books, in these stories. It’s a very, very big world, which is very is very complex.”

Although there are different worlds and spheres in the witcher world, each person only exists once and can at most switch between the worlds. A second Geralt that looks different wouldn’t make much sense here. Although Baginski repeatedly emphasizes in the interviews that the change from Cavill and Hemsworth would be implemented very faithfully to the books, everything indicates that the Netflix series deviates from the books again here.

Many “The Witcher” fans resent the creators of the Netflix series that Henry Cavill is leaving the series, with such a departure from the original material, many more viewers would surely turn their backs on the fantasy series.

First of all, you can get your own idea of what Henry Cavill’s final episodes in “The Witcher” look like. Season 3 Part 2 starts July 27, 2023 on Netflix.
