The Witcher on Netflix: Geralt changes – producer gives a telltale hint about the big change of actors

“The Witcher” probably won’t get a multiverse after all. Fans speculated that the Netflix series wants to follow in the footsteps of Marvel and Co., as producer Tomek Baginski spoke about multiple perspectives and different worlds in several interviews. That would have been one way for the series (although not a good one) to explain the change between previous lead actor Henry Cavill and future lead actor Liam Hemsworth.

But now Baginski speaks out against the multiverse theory in an interview with the Polish magazine Wyborcza (translation by Redanian Intelligence). Instead, it even seems to confirm another popular theory about Geralt of Rivia looking different.

Many book readers forget what Andrzej Sapkowski did in the fifth volume of the saga. For me this is one of the most important things in the whole story. I’m not talking about specific events, but rather the narrative framework introduced in this book. Suddenly, at the beginning of the book, we learn that everything we have read so far may not be true. And this is not comparable to the currently popular concept of the multiverse, where there are many different realities out of nowhere.

In Season 4 of “The Witcher,” Geralt’s story becomes a legend told from a different perspective

In the fifth book of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher saga, the author writes some chapters from a different perspective. These chapters take place hundreds of years after the adventures of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer and their story has become a legend. And since such legends are usually retold orally, each retelling gives the speaker its own interpretation.

In Sapkowski’s work there is only one reality, but since it is a story from the past, what we know has been filtered by different authors, historians, writers, etc. Maybe it’s Dandelion’s version or someone else’s. Perhaps Ciri had a different eye color, was a different character, and these events looked different from the elves’ perspective.

At the beginning of each chapter, for example, quotations from encyclopedias or contemporary songs are given. Suddenly it turns out that we can jump forward and backward in this story, change the context of events, and so on. I see what’s happening among fans and how rigidly they interpret “The Witcher.” But the truth is that the possible interpretations can be very different.

The different perspectives make it possible for the makers of “The Witcher” to explain why Geralt of Rivia suddenly looks completely different. However, this raises the question of whether Ciri, Yennefer and Dandelion might look different in the fourth season of the Netflix series. A recast of all the main characters would probably be too bold, but perhaps we’ll see slightly different versions of them.

It is likely that the characters Nimue and Condwiramurs will be introduced in season 4 of The Witcher

The future passages from “The Lady of the Lake” mentioned by Baginski are closely interwoven with the story of two new characters, who will probably make their debut in the Netflix series in season 4: Nimue and Condwiramurs. Both are sorceresses from Aretusa who have a great interest in the story of Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer.

Nimue even makes it her life’s mission to reconstruct Ciri’s story. “The Lady of the Lake”, as Nimue is also called, collects everything she can find about Ciri and even hires an assistant and dream interpreter, Condwiramurs Tilly.

But it is also possible that the Netflix series deviates here and instead lets Seanchai (Minnie Driver) from “The Witcher: Blood Origin” tell the story of Geralt. The elf can travel through time, collects stories and was the one who told Dandelion the story of the Seven so that he would write a ballad about them.

Either way, everything indicates that in season 4 of “The Witcher” we will at least briefly jump into the future and see the legend of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer through different eyes.
