Things haven’t been going well for Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson lately. For a long time he was considered a guarantee of viewers, but both “Jungle Cruise” and “Black Adam” fell short of expectations – a hard blow for one of Hollywood’s highest paid actors.

The image of the former popular figure also suffered from the flops, because suddenly stories made the rounds in which Johnson was criticized for his control addiction. Returning to the Fast & Furious franchise felt a bit like damage control and Johnson’s future seemed uncertain.

Now, however, Johnson has managed to become a Hollywood hero again – and off the screen. During the actors’ strike in the US, Johnson showed an impressive generosity that will not be easily forgotten in the industry.

At the beginning of the actors’ strike, Courtney B. Vance, the president of the Screen Actors Guild, wrote a letter to the 2,700 wealthiest members of the actors’ union, asking for their financial support, according to Variety.

After all, the strike is mainly about the small and supporting actors, who can hardly make ends meet due to the studios’ current production system. Of course, the actors don’t earn any money during the strike and are dependent on financial support.

Dwayne Johnson dug deep into his pockets and donated an unspecified amount to the Screen Actors Guild, but it was in the seven-figure range. Johnson is helping thousands of actors while the strike seems to be at a standstill and no agreements have yet been reached.

For Johnson, who is said to have earned 22.5 million US dollars for “Black Adam” alone, a donation of this amount is bearable, but the amount is unparalleled. It is not known if other wealthy actors have also donated, but Johnson’s donation is the largest in the history of the Screen Actors Guild.

Of course, one could now say that Johnson acted not out of generosity and selflessness but out of sheer self-interest, as his tarnished reputation was largely repaired by this donation. But when you consider how many people Johnson is helping, ulterior motives of this kind are really secondary and Johnson is well deserving of the new title of Hollywood Hero.

At the same time, at least Netflix is ​​not actively looking for solutions to end the strike, but is working on a future full of AI productions that would simply do without authors and actors. If things continue like this and an agreement is not reached soon, significantly more donations will be needed to protect the actors.
