Premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2020, Run, Sweetheart, Run is finally available to the general public on the Amazon Prime Video platform. Directed by Shana Feste, this horror thriller is part of the long list of Blumhouse productions, to which we owe American Nightmare, The Invisible Man and Ma.
Ella Balinska (Charlie’s Angels, Resident Evil) plays Cherie, a shy, hard-working single mother who thrives in her new job as a secretary at a law firm. One evening, one of his bosses asks him to replace him during an appointment with a client named Ethan and played by Pilou Asbæk (the awful Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones).

If Ethan turns out to be rather charming and magnetic during the meeting, he actually hides an extremely dangerous and violent nature. Cherie accepts a last drink in Ethan’s house to end the evening but comes out a few minutes later with her dress torn and her face bleeding.
She seeks help but no one answers her calls, not even the police. Ethan ends up finding her and explaining to her the rules of the unhealthy and diabolical “game” in which she must participate. Cherie will have to run with all her might through the streets of Los Angeles while Ethan “hunts” her. If she survives until daybreak, then she will live.

Through this dangerous “game of cat and mouse”, Run, Sweetheart, Run is in line with the survivals horror films dealing with patriarchal violence such as Invisible Man, Young Promising Woman or Assassination Nation.
With polished performances, a thrilling and stylized staging and a gripping plot, Run, Sweetheart, Run is worth the detour for an evening of original chills lulled by harrowing music and a good dose of blood.
