Spring is settling in comfortably and with it the first rumors of summer. Several credible sources have made revelations about the 2024 Xbox Games Showcase, including the date of the conference.
Apparently, the Summer Gest Fest 2024 and its share of announcements are arriving soon. Behind the scenes, manufacturers and publishers are preparing their next major speeches. Ubisoft has scheduled its annual meeting for June 10, when Sony plans to communicate on the PS5 catalog from next month. For its part, Xbox will also hold a conference during the event, without further details. This was without counting on the well-informed insiders.
First leaks for this summer’s Xbox Showcase
E3 is dead, long live Summer Game Fest. Geoff Keighley’s annual event has taken over in recent years, and the publishers will once again be present for this 2024 edition which promises to be particularly rich in announcements. Microsoft confirmed that its annual Xbox Showcase would be held last February, without further details. Details that we would have a little in advance thanks to information from The Verge. The media, well informed on the brand’s news, specified this weekend that the Microsoft conference would be held on Sunday June 9. The Redmond firm would announce Gears 6 there, as recent rumors suggested. However, this would not be the only Xbox Series exclusive that would appear.
Tom Warren names a few other games, including Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Avowed, Indiana Jones and the Ancient Circle, which should all lift the veil on the release date for the occasion. Also expected during this summer Xbox Showcase, a certain Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War. The next major episode would be shown during the event with a release during the sacrosanct holiday season. According to information from Tom Henderson (Insider Gaming), the game would fully embrace the open world for its main campaign. The missions would then look more like what a Far Cry could offer, with a whole bunch of vehicles to cross open maps that we are promised will never be seen before.
A focus on Call of Duty Black Ops Gulf War
Activision has every interest in releasing the big game after the debacle of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Players clearly won’t have to wait until the Xbox Showcase to see the game in action. Henderson’s sources indeed affirm that this new Call of Duty Black Ops would be revealed ahead of the event and in a more traditional way. By that, mean that there will be no need to go to Warzone to witness the big discovery. The 2024 episode would, however, be revealed more fully during the Xbox Showcase, with probably a demonstration of a mission from the main campaign. The communication campaign would continue in August, with a focus on multiplayer, then on zombies mode.
We also recall that Windows Central’s Jez Corden recently hinted that State of Decay 3 could also make an appearance this summer. Nothing is less certain, especially since an artist working on it suggested that the game would not arrive before 2027. The latter was quick to delete this reference, a big mistake on her part? So maybe see you on June 9 to find out for sure.
