Theo Koll returns to ZDF. As a political expert, he will be available to the ZDF morning magazine from March, as the station announced in an announcement. With him, presenter Philip Wortmann (29) will be part of the newly formed team from Berlin from March.
First Phoenix, now ZDF
It was a farewell in installments – to his own retirement. It was only at the end of 2023 that Koll, top journalist and long-time head of the ZDF capital studio, banned himself and his famous British shirt collars from the ZDF screen after 33 years. It was said that he would take over as chairman of the board of trustees of “Aktion Mensch” on January 1st. But a report from January 19th suggested that Koll must have been missing something in retirement. It was said a month ago that Koll will now strengthen the team of presenters at the ZDF-affiliated political channel Phoenix. Now the ZDF promises that they want to “strengthen the young perspective and benefit from the experience of decades of political observation – with Philip Wortmann and Theo Koll.” The whole thing under the heading “Two new faces in the ZDF morning magazine”.
“At 66 years…”
But while Wortmann exudes something of the carefree attitude of Julian Nagelsmann, it is difficult to accept Theo Koll as a “new face”. For decades, his analysis of the political situation in the republic has been as famously sharp as the British tab shirt collars that he loves to wear. And Loriot fans may have already suspected it at the end of 2023: you never go all the way. Leaving the familiar professional terrain is particularly difficult for men, see “Papa ante portas.” So now Koll returns to the ZDF screen back, shortly before his 66th birthday on March 19th.
