“There are disturbing scenes”: why Hayden Christensen (Darth Vader) has not yet shown the Star Wars to his daughter


During a meeting with Diego Luna, the interpreter of Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prelogy confided that his daughter had never seen him wear Darth Vader’s armor on the screen.

Nearly 20 years after playing the tumultuous Anakin Skywalker, going from the Dark Side to becoming the dark Darth Vader in George Lucas’ Star Wars prequel, comedian Hayden Christensen is now 42 years old, and he is the father of a little girl. 8 year old girl.

While he was recently able to find his character and put on the emblematic armor of the Sith lord again in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the actor spoke about his journey in the Star Wars saga alongside Diego Luna (interpreter of Cassian Andor) on the Variety channel.

Having explained that he already imitated Vader’s breath in his childhood to scare his little sister, Hayden Christensen also declared that his daughter had never seen his performance in the Lucas trilogy before:

[Elle] knows I’m in Star Wars playing Darth Vader. But she has never seen him before. So I’m getting to it. I try to find the best way, the best way in… There are some disturbing scenes that I’m reluctant to show him at that age… I have to do it, the sooner the best.”

Effectively, in Revenge of the Sithepisode III of the saga in which Anakin really goes to the wrong side of the Force, we can notably see him exterminating Jedi apprentices, before being completely burned by Mustafar’s lava at the end of his fight against Obi-Wan .

Despite everything, Christensen took advantage of her return in the recent Disney+ series to offer her daughter a little trip to the galaxy far, far away:

(…) It was really nice to be able to do the Obi-Wan series and bring it to the set.”he said.

“Not when I was wearing the Darth Vader costume, but when we did the flashback sequence and I was playing Anakin. So I brought her on set, and she got to see me wielding a lightsaber with Ewan McGregor. She was very concerned about my safety. She was afraid that one of us would get hurt.”
