“There, I was rubbish”: Vincent Cassel has only one regret in his career

Vincent Cassel has no regrets in his career, taking responsibility for all his choices, good and bad. Or rather just one in fact, as explained in Pierre Lescure’s show “Beau Geste”.

In (already…) more than thirty years of career, Vincent Cassel has more than largely revealed himself to be very eclectic in his artistic choices, not always happy, but always comfortable with change.

From Mesrine in Jean-François Richet’s diptych to the French villain of the Westworld series, including the three musketeers, Black Swan, On my lips by Jacques Audiard, Mon roi at Maïwenn or an incursion into Xavier Dolan in Juste la fin du world. In short, an (extra) wide spectrum.

And the actor doesn’t have many regrets in his career. In fact, he only has one, as he explained to Pierre Lescure in his show Beau geste, dedicated to cinema and broadcast on France 2.

Which one in this case? That of not having played in the film Les Misérables by Ladj Ly, released in 2019, which will go home, among other things, crowned with 4 Césars in 2020 including that of Best French Film of the Year.

“I only have one regret, just one, and yet it was a small role. Ladj Ly called me to play a role in it, and it was at a somewhat complicated time in the rest of my life. And so I was juggling… I said: “Look, I won’t be able to, I can’t block myself…”

And when I saw the movie… Well, not even. When I saw the trailer, I said to myself: “You poor bastard!” I then called him, and I said to him: “Ladj, I have never had any regrets, but here, I was rubbish”.

On the news side, we remind you that the actor is appearing in Three Musketeers: Miladyin theaters on December 13.
