Ten Oscar nominations for the adaptation of Dunes by Denis Villeneuve. This is not nothing for a work of science fiction that was a monumental challenge. The feature film is the second most nominated film, just after The Power of the Dog (12 nominations), and before West Side Story (7 nominations), Did we learn on February 8, 2022.

Denis Villeneuve’s already cult SF adaptation
It will have taken very long years before the work of Frank Hebert is again adapted to the cinema, since the version of David Lynch. Jodorowski’s project, for its part, became a true legend of cinema… never seeing the light of day. Since then, there is this fear that Dunes is an almost cursed project.
This did not prevent Denis Villeneuve — the director of brilliant First contact — to tackle the task. Despite some postponed release dates, which raised fears of a perpetuation of the curse, it was not. On the contrary, the result was largely up to, even beyond expectations, delivering an already cult work.
And where the entrances to the theater could worry, the success with the public was there, so much so that a sequel is planned: Dune Part II is ordered by Warner, and planned for 2023.
Ultimately, this adaptation by Denis Villeneuve seems to be a real success story. It remains to be seen with which Oscars the film will finally leave, and in what quantity.
