Every year, the factory Trusted by the Laws in Prahecq, a town located in the Deux-Sèvres department, bottles nearly 100 million liters of water before transporting them to the numerous Intermarché supermarkets across France. Consequently, the production and marketing of the brand’s bottled waters Fiends of the Laws And First prizes was stopped as part of a product recall campaign which began on February 14, 2024. Two products marketed exclusively in the brands of the group of Musketeers, almost everywhere in France. The reason ? The presence of a potentially carcinogenic pesticide at a level exceeding vigilance thresholds. It’s about “Chlorothalonil metabolite R471811”, as revealed by the regional health agency (ARS) of Deux-Sèvres.

Contaminated bottled water: production stopped
“The quality vigilance threshold for a fungicide molecule, the metabolite R471811 of Chlorothalonil, was exceeded during sampling”, indicates the deputy director of the Deux-Sèvres delegation of this ARSas reported by our colleagues from Top Health. This is a fungicide whose use has been banned on French soil since 2020 in view of its carcinogenic potential. In the present case, it is the presence of R471811A “metabolite resulting from the environmental degradation of chlorothalonil” which was detected within these two brands of bottled water.

Although these have been withdrawn from sale as a precaution, it is possible that consumers have gotten their hands on some bottles contaminated with the pesticide in question. For its part, the distributor is responsive and reassuring by having stopped the production of bottled water in the sources concerned. After carrying out a series of analyzes on the site in question, the group of Musketeers affirms that the consumption of these bottled waters does not present a risk to the health of consumers.
