A success due in part to an affordable price offer for all budgets and to the model that the Swedish giant has been able to build, based in particular on its furniture kit offering. With the promise of furniture that can be built by ordinary mortals and attractive prices, the positioning of the brand which was recently inspired by the clash between Inès Règ and Natasha St-Pier in Dancing with the Stars 2024 for its latest marketing campaign, attracted a large number of consumers.

Same case for the Guide shelf by Niels Gammelgaard, marketed in 1985, a copy of which sold for 1,400 euros on the website of a second-hand dealer. It is difficult to find today the base price at which this product was marketed. IKEA in the 80s but one thing is certain, given the strategy of the Swedish giant, its price was far from reaching such a sum.

These are not the only two vintage pieces of furniture from IKEA which today unleash the passions of collectors. Indeed, other products marketed more than twenty years ago are now highly sought after by interior decoration enthusiasts. This is particularly the case for vintage lounge chair model “Skye” by Tord Björklund designed for Ikea in 1980. The object found a buyer on the website of a second-hand dealer for the modest sum of 599 euros. Finally, the Vilbert chair by Verner Panton marketed in 1993 by the Scandinavian giant is also a model which is now the object of desire.

It’s a safe bet that the designers of these objects are surprised to discover the sums that consumers are willing to pay today to acquire one of their pieces.
