Canyon is revamping its Pathlite:ON e-bike range, with six new versions added to its SUV range. On today’s menu: power to spare thanks to the Bosch Performance Line CX engine.
A turbulent and dynamic start to the year for the German manufacturer Canyon. After launching its brand new urban bike – the Precede:ON Comfort 7 which we tested – the brand is renewing its Pathlite:ON range with nine new electric bikes: three for the Superlight family, six for the Pathlite:ON SUV siblings.
The most powerful motor from Boch
Here, the group seeks to offer solutions for trekking and cycle touring, by offering robust cycles, with an imposing size, versatile and above all with power to spare. All versions – from Pathlite:ON 4 to 9 – therefore inherit the Performance Line CX engine with a very generous 85 Nm of torque. This should be powerful and give pride of place to dynamism.
We will not dwell here on each characteristic of each technical sheet. The idea is to highlight the main strengths and the few differences between each iteration. For example, only the Pathlite:ON 4 SUV is satisfied with a 626 Wh battery, compared to 750 Wh for all its big brothers.
Bosch ABS on the menu
The entire range also benefits from a suspended fork with 100 mm travel. A very good value which should largely absorb shocks and other roughness on the beaten track. That’s a good point. The Pathlite:ON 8 and 9 SUV stand out mainly for their Bosch ABS.
This technology has been tested by Frandroid in November 2022: she simply impressed us at the time. This is a significant additional guarantee of security, which on average increases the bill to 400 euros.
Enviolo on two versions
Also, the Pathlite:ON 9 and 7 SUV models benefit from a Gates carbon belt associated with an Enviolo Heavy Duty automatically variable transmission. This is a system that automatically manages gear changes according to your pace and pedaling cadence. You don’t have to do anything, it’s turnkey and very practical when everything is well calibrated.
The other versions rely on a Shimano DEORE different systems were favored depending on the level of finish: Shimano MT200 for the 4 and 5, Magura MT30 for the 6 and 7, and finally Magura MT C for the 8 and 9.
Between 26 and 30 kg
The tires divide the range into two: Maxxis Crossmark II Reflexstrip Clincher for the four most affordable, versus MAXXIS Crossmark II EXO TR for the two most expensive. All versions, except the most high-end, are available in high frame and low frame. Their weight varies between 26 and 30 kg.
