Each year, rabbits and eggs become children's stars again for Easter. In chocolate or sugar, small or large, our kids love these delicacies. However, it is important to watch what your child is eating, in fact, some sweets can be very dangerous for young children, especially because of their shapes and their consistencies.

In February 2018, a mother made a point of warning parents about the mini sugar eggs of the English brand Cadbury, following the death of her five-year-old daughter by suffocation.

This woman had shared an open letter anonymously on the Mums Advice site, asking parents to " take note " "As Easter approaches, I want to warn you of another risk of fatal suffocation, which tragically took my child away", she says. "It has been barely three years since my precious little girl, Sophie, died after choking on a mini egg and I couldn't dislodge it, even with pat on the back and pushing up and under his ribs. " Then she explains that first aid were not enough to save her daughter. "It didn't help, I watched the light come out of my baby's eyes, I tried in vain to save it. " she wrote.

A non-isolated case

After notifying the other parents, this mother had received numerous testimonies in comments. "My twins are 14 now, when they were five, one of them choked on a mini egg and for years, I couldn't let her have it. When I finally succeeded, they were cut in half and closely watched. ”, says a mother. Another mom writes: “It happened to my son around the age of four. Fortunately, I managed to get away with the Heimlich maneuver because the back snap did not work. "

The English brand then expressed its support for this mother, indicating that the candies are not suitable for children under 4 years of age. “We make sure that all of our Cadbury Mini Eggs packaging clearly carry the following warning: Risk of suffocation: This product is not suitable for children of less than four years. "

How to reduce the risk of suffocation?

First of all, it is important to read the instructions written on the packaging, these indicators are important to know if your child can consume these sweets or not. You can also cut the eggs or rabbits in half to make it easier to eat.

Be careful, in case of suffocation, call immediately help at 15 or 112 to follow their directions. Never put your fingers inside your child's mouth or throat, it may sink the object even deeper. Encourage your child to cough and spit out the object in his throat, without scaring him.
