these seven diseases would be particularly at risk for the virus

An epidemiological study by the EPI-PHARE Scientific Interest Group sheds light on these pathologies from which patients seem to more often develop serious forms of Covid-19. There are 7 of them.

The coronavirus does not affect everyone equally. This pathology, in its severe form, particularly affects people over the age of 60 and men. The latter are more at risk of hospitalization and death following a Covid-19 than women, risk multiplied by 1.4 and 2.1 respectively. What this’study unveiled by EPI-PHARES highlights is that disadvantaged people die more from Covid infection than others. According to Huffington Post, “All other things being equal, the municipalities which are part of the poorest 25% deplore an excess mortality 30% higher than in the rest of France, compared to 2018 and 2019.” Apart from age and sex, comorbidities are known and listed on the Ministry of Health website concerning the priorities for vaccination: diabetes, obesity, respiratory pathologies. In addition to these known and regularly repeated comorbidities, certain pathologies are particularly at risk of developing serious forms.

Thus, respiratory pathologies such as cystic fibrosis, lung cancer, or even having received a lung transplant. This is also the case for Down’s syndrome and for people with mental retardation. Finally, people who need dialysis or who have had a kidney transplant are more likely than others to develop a severe form of the infection.
Also note that people prone to depression are also a priority to be vaccinated against the coronavirus.
