The LR presidential candidate was not destined for politics. Twice, she was denied her dream job because she was pregnant. Tenacious, she hung on, and now takes her revenge.
A brilliant and hardworking young woman, after passing through HEC, Valérie Roux studied at the ENA, from which she graduated second in 1992. Two years later, she married the polytechnician Jérôme Pécresse and joined the Council of State where she worked for eight years. According to Madame Figaro, she experienced her first disappointment there.
Passionate about culture, more particularly the 7th art, Valérie Pécresse is applying to become deputy director of the National Cinema Center (CNC). She is refused the job because she is…pregnant! “What is the problem in the career of women? Me, I lived it in my flesh. I do politics, because I was refused the job of my dreams”, she reacts to our colleagues of Miss Figaro.
One then two missed jobs… The third will be the good one
Rebelote a few years later, when the Deputy General Secretariat of the Council of State opens, a position to which she claims. “Ah la la! It’s not going to be possible”, I was told, “says the LR presidential candidate. Once again, this job that she wants passes under her nose, because she is pregnant with her second child. “But I don’t victimize myself. Because the third time, it was the opposite”, adds the politician for Miss Figaro.
The years go by, but they are not alike. Some time after these two disappointments, Michel Gentot, a senior French civil servant, offered him the post of government commissioner, now renamed “public rapporteur”, at the Council of State. Valérie Pécresse immediately informs her that she is pregnant again. Michel Gentot’s repartee fuses: “You don’t think it’s going to influence me? To his surprise, the young woman is hired. She is amused today by the comical situation: “He even imposed on a man to do my interim, it was unheard of.” In the end, all it takes is a nice encounter for a woman to climb mountains… Maybe even to the highest government post!
