These two movie stars could be…brothers! The amazing discovery of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson

More than best friends, brothers? Yes, it could well be that Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson have the same father. We tell you!

HBO

After EDtv and True Detective, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will soon find themselves on screen in Apple TV+’s new comedy, Brother From Another Mother. The 10-episode series will feature the two actors in fictionalized versions of themselves as they reunite their families on a ranch in Texas.

But while the show’s title hints at the comedians’ real-life friendship over the decades, it could be that they’re little more than really good friends. As Variety reports, it was while speaking on Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast that Matthew McConaughey revealed that Woody Harrelson could be his real brother…

You know, where I start and where it ends, and where it starts and I end, has always been like a blurry line. And that’s part of our bromance, right? My kids call him Uncle Woody. His children call me Uncle Matthew. And you see pictures of us and my family thinks a lot of pictures of him are of me. His family thinks a lot of pictures of me are of him.

But besides a certain resemblance, it’s a simple statement from Matthew McConaughey’s mother that sows doubt…

In Greece a few years ago we sat down to talk about our closeness and our families. And my mother is there, and she says, ‘Woody, I knew your father. Everyone was aware of the ellipses my mother left after ‘knew’. He was a loaded KNOW.

THE INVESTIGATION IS LAUNCHED

The revelation thus led Matthew McConaughey to investigate his family background.

We then broke down what ‘knew’ meant and did some math and found out that the father [de Woody] was on leave at the same time my mom and dad were in their second divorce. Then there are receipts and possible locations in West Texas where there might have been an encounter.

The actors, however, have not yet decided to take a DNA test to obtain concrete proof. For Matthew McConaughey, knowing the truth is not as simple as for Woody Harrelson…

It’s a little harder for me because he’s asking me to take a chance and saying, ‘Wait a minute, you’re trying to tell me my dad might not be my dad after 53 years of believing this ?’ I have a few more stakes in this story.

WOODY’S FATHER, A NOTORIOUS CRIMINAL

Woody Harrelson’s father, Charles V. Harrelson, who could therefore also be that of Matthew McConaughey, also has a rather difficult past to assimilate: he was a contract killer, information that Woody discovered as a child on the radio when his father had left home five years earlier. Former seller of encyclopedias in the 1950s, Charles Harrelson was convicted of armed robbery in the early 1960s, then accused of murder in 1968. Released on parole ten years later, he was then recalled by the courts in 1979 for the assassination of a judge. Under the influence of cocaine, he confesses this crime… as well as the assassination of John Fitzgerald Kennedy! Sentenced to life imprisonment, he died in prison of a heart attack in 2007.

It remains to be seen whether this crazy story will be mentioned in the upcoming series, the title of which would be incredibly appropriate if it were. Are Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson half-brothers? The possibility is there…
