A function of Android 15, in its DP1, allows you to reduce the intensity of notifications when you receive lots of them at once from the same application.
That’s it, it’s the first kickoff for Android 15 of which Developer Preview 1 has been released. As a reminder, at the DP1 stage, the future version of the mobile OS is necessarily very far from its finalized and stable form. Remember that the first beta version will only see the light of day in April while the general public version can be expected at the start of the school year.
Despite this, Android 15 is already revealing some of its secrets. The specialized site 9to5Google focused in particular on new features that can already be found in DP1. Among them, there is one that looks interesting for reducing the stress that incoming notifications can generate on a smartphone.

More precisely, the function tackles the showers of notifications that we can receive from the same application in a short time. We’ve all experienced that moment when a group conversation on a messaging app catches fire. We then end up with at least ten notifications in less than a minute.
There is indeed an option in Android 15 (DP1) called “Cooldown notification” in English. This notion can be translated in several ways into French, but it must generally be understood that the term “cooldown” designates a time of descent in pressure, of withdrawal.
But then, what does this option consist of? A small description provided in the interface makes it clearer.
Gradually decrease notification volume when you receive multiple notifications in succession from the same app.
In other words, the system can realize that an application is sending a bunch of notifications all at once. To avoid annoying you, it will reduce the intensity of incoming alerts. The description talks about reducing the volume, but we can bet that this option also works when you are in vibrate mode — to reduce the intensity of the vibrations.

This function then offers three options:
- apply the cooldown to all notifications;
- apply it only to conversations;
- deactivate it.
Since mass notifications can be a real source of daily stress for many people, such an option will be interesting to discover in Android 15. Remember, however, that we cannot yet know with certainty whether this functionality will be preserved until official deployment of the stable version.
