In a charming residential area stands a black building surrounded by a fallow lawn. This sinister facade hides a secret: Gru, a villainous villain, surrounded by a myriad of underlings and armed to the teeth, who, unbeknownst to the neighborhood, is plotting the biggest heist of all time. The case in question? Steal the Moon!
One day, Gru comes face to face with three little orphans who see in him someone quite different: a dad. The greatest villain of all time then finds himself faced with his toughest test, namely three little girls named Margo, Edith and Agnes.
This pitch necessarily tells you something… It is of course that of Despicable Me, a film released in theaters in 2010 that we can already consider as a small classic of animated cinema.
If Moi, ugly and wicked, concocted (cocorico!) by the French Mac Guff, is so successful, it is because it is furiously funny and full of ideas. Impossible not to salute the originality of this fast-paced film which, not content to make the zygomatics work with its humor (sometimes tinged with darkness) and to make the eyes widen by the quality of its animation, also knows how to be tender and moving when it is needed.
High-flying entertainment, the feature film from Universal and Illumination studios, carried by the voices of Steve Carrell (in VO) and Gad Elmaleh (in VF), would obviously not be what it is without the presence of the priceless Minions. These hairy yellow creatures with improbable language, which sometimes steal the show from Gru, will meet with such popular success that two films will then be devoted to them.
If you feel like embarking on a despicable me marathon, remember that two sequels, Despicable Me 2 and Despicable Me 3, equally successful, were released in 2013 and 2017 respectively.
