The Sony RX100 shook up expert compacts with its 1″ sensor. With the same formula, the Panasonic Lumix TZ100 reproduces the same leap for travel compacts, imposing a new standard both in terms of image quality and features, even on the video part. Finally, we see our expectations rewarded by finally seeing a manufacturer affirm that it is better to have a large sensor and a modest zoom rather than the opposite…

Should we continue to offer compacts with small sensors when everyone today has a phone capable of taking photos of astonishing quality? Certainly, users will continue to turn to cameras when they are looking for powerful zoom. This is also a niche in which the HX99 excels with its 30x zoom stored in a pocket handkerchief. But the optical quality is not there and the image quality struggles to withstand competition from 1″ sensor devices. The HX99 remains capable of great things for a low price, but its market is shrinking at high speed. .
