This Chinese car, among the cheapest on the market, is (almost) as safe as a Mercedes EQE


The new BYD Atto 3, which arrives in France in a few weeks, obtained the maximum score in the EuroNCAP crash test, just like the Mercedes EQE. On the other hand, the Citroën C5 X and Mobilize Limo are disappointing.

It is a passage almost obligatory for all the new models which arrive on the market. If crash tests are not technically required to be able to launch a vehicle on the market, However, this remains a pledge of trust and above all a great commercial argument. if the latter receives a good mark. These tests are then carried out by an independent body, called EuroNCAP, and not the manufacturers themselves. Although sometimes there are doubts about cheating methods on the part of manufacturers.

Good surprises…

This October 12, a new salvo of ratings was unveiled by Euro NCAP for a handful of recently unveiled models. Among them, the BYD Atto 3, which will soon be launched in Europe and which displays an affordable price for the category, around 38,000 euros. As detailed on the site of the European body, the electric SUV then obtains the maximum score, namely five stars. The latter receives a score of 91% for the protection of adults, 89% for that of children and 69% for vulnerable users, such as pedestrians and cyclists. The SUV also gets 74% for its technological endowment and its safety aids.

Another model, from a slightly different category this time, also made a very good impression. This is the Mercedes EQE, the little sister of the big EQS, which has also been rated in recent weeks. The premium electric sedan also received the coveted five stars. It excels in particular when it comes to protecting adults, with a score of 95%. The protection of child passengers is also very good, reaching 91%. Pedestrians are also well protected, while this newcomer to the range obtains a score of 83%. With many driving aids, the sedan has 81% in this category.

…and some disappointments

On the other hand, this new batch of tests also has its share of disappointments. Indeed, to obtain the maximum rating of five stars, many criteria are taken into account, such as the presence of certain driving aids. And in this case, impossible to receive the best score. This is precisely what happened to another car assembled in China, the Citroën C5 X, which is confined to four stars. If the sedan receives respectively scores of 82, 87 and 69% for the protection of adults, children and pedestrians, it fishes on the other hand on the side of safety assistance, where it does not exceed 66%. In particular, it is not equipped with a pedestrian detection system in reverse..

It is somewhat the same concern encountered by the Mobilize Limo, an electric sedan recently launched by the Renault subsidiary based on the Renault Megane E-Tech, which has also just lifted the veil on the Duo, the replacement for the Twizy. It is also satisfied with four stars, despite good marks for the protection of adults and children, with 80 and 75%. This newcomer is a bit lacking in terms of pedestrian protection, with 69%, and also lacks certain driving aids, despite receiving a score of 71%.
