This Chinese electric car rival to the Tesla Model Y finally arrives in Europe

Unveiled last year, the Xpeng G6 will finally arrive in Europe in the coming months. The electric car, a competitor to the Tesla Model Y, is characterized in particular by very fast charging, but there is a small catch.

If you don’t know Xpeng yet, it shouldn’t be too long now. And for good reason, we have been talking about the Chinese firm in our columns for quite some time, even if it is not yet present in France.

An upcoming arrival

However, the manufacturer, which was created in 2014 by He Xiaopeng, has already arrived in Europe several months ago. Customers located in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and the Netherlands can already buy certain models in the range, namely the P7 sedan and the large G9 SUV, rival of the Tesla Model .

But there is no question for Xpeng of resting on its achievements, while the Chinese firm has just formed a new alliance with Volkswagen. The latter announces in a press release just published the arrival of a third model on the Old Continent. It is once again an electric SUV, which is none other than the G6. This one hunts directly in the lands of the Tesla Model Y and the Volkswagen ID.4, among others.

It’s been almost a year to the day since this new addition to the catalog was unveiled, although it was already launched in China last summer. But we will have to show a little more patience before seeing the SUV arrive here, since the latter will arrive in Europe in the 3rd quarter. And France should not be a priority, unlike the Scandinavian countries, as well as Germany, among others. And for good reason, the manufacturer plans to set up there shortly.

From May, customers will be able to test the P7, a rival to the Tesla Model S, as announced by the American site Electrive, as well as the G9. We do not yet know whether this will also be the case for the G6 located just below in the range. But France is absolutely not sidelined by the Canton-based firm, quite the contrary. Because it is even part of her plans, as she announced last September.

A very interesting SUV

However, we do not yet know when the new Xpeng G6 will officially arrive in our territory, while the company does not yet have dealerships here at the moment. In any case, the latter could greatly interest customers, since it promises to offer rather high-end services. Its driving position is modern, with its large 14.96-inch touch screenwhich reminds us of what Tesla offers.

This is associated with a 10.2-inch digital handset. Comfort should be essential with its wheelbase of 2.89 meters and you should know that the SUV is equipped with XPILOT semi-autonomous driving. It also comes standard with two 50W induction smartphone charging slots and a heated steering wheel. Bidirectional charging is also part of the equipment, as is the heat pump. The list of options is deliberately very short.

Several versions are available for the Xpeng G6, with two or four-wheel drive and powers between 258 and 476 horsepower. Thus, 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in less than 4 seconds for a maximum speed of 200 km/h. It is also possible to choose between a 66 kWh LFP (lithium – iron – phosphate) battery offering a range of 435 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle and an 87.5 kWh NMC (nickel – manganese – cobalt) pack. The latter allows the car to travel up to 570 kilometers on a single charge.

This is carried out from 10 to 80% in less than 20 minutes, thanks to an 800 volt architecture, as on the Kia EV6, among others. All with a maximum power of 280 kW, which is very impressive. Orders will open from May, while European prices have not yet been revealed. In China, the SUV starts from 209,000 yuan, i.e. around 26,000 euros. But this amount will be significantly increased.
